A horrible Rainy Day in Bangkok

Posted by Michael, 19 September 2009 · 55 views

Went to Siam Paragon for Lunch and had a nice time. Came out and waiting for a taxi but the rain was pouring and there were NO taxis coming. I then went up to the skytrain to see if that would be faster. The lines were so long I thought it would take forever so I walked down to Central Plaza to get a taxi. A big mistake. It took 2 hours to get a ride that should have been 10 min. Here is what the roads looked like!

I was luckier!! Even though I was reliant on public transport I was able to stay undercover all the way back to Siam BTS then Skytrain to Victory Monument and only about 20 metres without cover got me into the Van Station and I was on my Van back to Bang Saen hardly wet at all and soon dry anyway. I agree though the roads and flooding were horrendous and I felt very sorry for those outside getting wet from the rain and wading through the roads which had become rivers.

If you watch the international news, you can see that the Philippines has been devastated by typhoon Ondoy. Typhoon Ondoy ripped throughout Metro Manila (where the country's capital is), and has caused floods in numerous parts of Luzon.

I saw some video footage of a flooded river, and some people were on the river, standing/riding on some logs/debris and little kayaks that were carried along by the flood. They actually looked like they were surfing but they were actually screaming for help.

The typhoon is expected to leave the country by monday and will exit into the South China Sea.

Global Warming? Climate Change? Amen.
