Anyone know of a good place to buy sneakers in Pattaya? Willing to buy either a good pair or cheap on depending on quality/price.

Also anyone know what European size is a size 10 American?

I don't know about the sizes, but there are plenty of good, brand name shoe shops in Pattaya's shopping centers. The best ones are probably to be found in Royal Garden and the new Central shopping malls. Even if you don't know the sizes, the clerks can measure your size and you can try on the shoes until you hit upon the right size.

A guy who's only been living here for a short while gets to learn very quickly about bars and restaurants. But there's a big time lag re clothes since we normally bring what we need for the first couple years.

Regarding sizes, why not just try the shoes on and when you find ones that fit, look at the size?

Re the sizes if buying at an outdoor market I'd rather try on as few as possible.

Why? The outdoor markets are selling new shoes, not used shoes. I can't imagine buying shoes anywhere without trying them on first to make sure they fit and are comfortable.

Even when I know my size I always try shoes on before I buy them. I thought that was the normal thing to do.

Of course I'd never buy shoes without trying them on. Just want to try on as few as possible if I'm sitting on a dirt floor and knowing what size 10 is helps in that regard.

You might try Carrefour, Big C, or Tesco's for inexpensive sneakers. Not great quality, but cheap.

Think I'll check them out, much easier to try things on in air-con.

Much easier indeed. You will also have a receipt and a return policy than is in place. Maybe not important, but certainly better than an outdoor market.

Guess it's best not wear shoes out the door so that they can be returned if I have a change of heart back in my place.

Making a return here is not that easy to do.

That's why if I'm not sure, I don't buy.

While back at home, I could buy stuff at the Gap, and think about it for a couple weeks. If the price was reduced in the interim, they would even do a price adjustment.

The exchange policy is certainly not the same as in the US, but at least it maybe possible at Tesco or Big C. At an outdoor market, your chances of exchange are much closer to zero.

I noticed a large shoe outlet at the new Central Festival yesterday. The vendor set up shop on the ground floor outside the entrance, close to the food store on the 2nd road side. I saw a large selection of sneakers, but not sure of the sizes. If you like to stick out in a crowd, I noticed a nice gold pair and another pair, bright red.

Hope you find something in the right color. I am not sure how long the vendor will be there or the quality of the shoes. They sure had a large selection.
