I think these people probably were well intentioned, for the wrong reasons. I can completely understand the Haitian peoples upset with any groups that take it upon themselves, circumventing adoption procedures. I cannot fathom the despair in Haiti. I can't help but wonder if some of the Baptist motivation is driven by the fact that 2/3 of the population of Haiti price some form of Voodoo.This article merits reading.

Haiti is a lot like Thailand. I heard the Haitian lawyer wanted $60,000 for all the charges to go away.

Paying the $60,000 would have been the easy way out, but it really was no guarantee of freedom. The lawyer might have taken the money and run.
