I thought it was pretty good - but will it shut up the crazies?

I think it may be this issue which is his downfall. That is sad as it is a very important thing to accomplish but he has a large uphill battle here!

I just don't understand how people stuggling financially (which is the entire middle class in America) could possibly not want free health care?

Jesus, when you are broke take whatever people are willing to offer you!

In my opinion many voters in the USA don't think for themselves they think what they are told to think. Currently, they are told that if we allow a National Health Care System, that socialism will be next.

But we have socialized police and firemen and nobody objects to that!

Imagine if we were really anti socialist and everyone had to hire their own personal bodyguards to enforce the law!

Expat, I'm with you. I think this health care debacle may do Obama in, and that is a damn shame. He has so much work to do to unfuck the nation from the Bush years, and he has so much great potential that it frustrates the hell out of me that he's put it all on the line with this over-ambitious health care plan. Hasn't he ever heard that old cliche about not putting all your eggs in one basket? Why did he have to try to do so much at one time? This has now become a do-or-die situation. He would have been so much better off trying to take on health care in small, more manageable steps. I think he got some crappy advice from his counselors.

Smoker, isn't it funny how middle and lower-income people, especially in the South, are the strongest part of the Republican base, even though they're the ones that Republican policies screw over the most? I live in Florida in a bright red county filled with people who would benefit from the things Obama is trying to do, yet they parrot everything Fox News tells them to say.
